About
Hi, I’m Joe. I’m an independent music tutor and performance coach based in the beautiful city of York.
As a musician and music tutor I am passionate about music education for all, and use my knowledge and own experiences from my time spent training to create personalised lessons that puts the student at the centre of their learning.
Credits & Qualifications
Joe studied at Leeds Conservatoire, first between 2017-2021 for his BA (Hons) in Music (Jazz) (Saxophone). Joe then went back to the conservatoire over 2022-2023 to study for his MA in Musical Direction.
As a musician, Joe, continues to play on the jazz scene, as well as at numerous private events, with his ‘Euro-Jazz’ band ‘Manouche Ganoush’ and in the past has had stints as Lead Alto Saxophonist for both GT Big Band and Burley-in-Wharfedale Big Band. Joe has also had success with various other music projects including ‘The Storytelling Ensemble’, the trio ‘Bowes/Berg/Allen’ and as band leader for the ‘Joe Allen Big Band’.
As a Musical Director, Joe has worked professionally within the theatre industry working with professional performers and celebrities including Louis Spence & Les Dennis. In 2024, this saw Joe work on a national tour with Anton Benson Productions. Joe is also resident Musical Director for the award-winning NETheatre, York.
As a Composer, Joe composes for his own projects, as well as working on commissions. Recent commissions include composing the music for Northern Opera Group’s children show ‘Book of Eternity’. As an arranger/orchestrator, Joe works on a variety of freelance projects for various clients both in the UK and internationally.

This is to see if we’re a good fit and discuss how we can aim future lessons towards meeting your goals. Consultation lessons cost £18.00 for the half hour which is payable before the session.
